Two iphone with seperate numbers for one person

Hi guys,

I have two iphones (iphone 7 & iphone 5c) with seperate numbers. i want to use one apple id on both since i will be using them and don't want seperate apple id's.

Now that i have configured both iphone, i am facing lot of issues-

1) Unable to activate imessage in my iphone 7.

2) Iphone 7 messages going to iphone 5c etc.

Please advice, is it recommended to use two iphones with one apple id? or should i create seperate id.

Thanks

Raavs

Hi raavs,

I see that you're unable to activate iMessage on your new iPhone 7, your messages are appearing on both devices, and you're curious if you should be using the same Apple ID for both devices. I'm happy to assist you with these questions.

To help with your iMessage activation issue, take a look at the following resource:

If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime
If you'd like to prevent messages from going to both devices, you can sign out of your Apple ID on one of your iPhones. This will still allow you to receive iMessages and SMS messages to your device's specific phone number, but will prevent messages from coming to both devices. To do this, navigate to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, then tap on your Apple ID and choose "Sign Out".
To address your last question, I recommend using the same Apple ID with all of your computers and iOS devices.
Happy Holidays!

Hi raavs,

If you've waited for 24 hours and have followed all the steps in If you get an error when trying to activate iMessage or FaceTime , we recommend these steps next:

Still not activated after a day?

It might take up to 24 hours to activate iMessage and FaceTime. If the issue continues after 24 hours, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS.
  2. If you're using an iPhone, contact your carrier to make sure that you can receive SMS messages.
  3. Contact Apple Support.

Take care.
