How to copy a DVD made from a VHS

I had DVDs made from some family VHS. They play on my macbook pro but when I copy them so that I can make more copies, a folder is created. I don't know how to put it into a format to make copies.

That disk is in the DVD format.

If you want to make a copy you have a few options, the easiest is probably via an app like Toast or Burn.

Another option is to use Disk Utility - you have to make a disk image first & then use Disk Utility to burn that (unless you have 2 DVD drives available).

If you want a non-standard disk or to distribute via the web you can convert those files to another format.

For Dropbox it is sort of irrelevant but you need to consider if the end user has a player (it's a download service). VLC will play the VOB files (video object files) you have on disk, but they are too large & inconvenient for most users.

YouTube has guidance for its requirements…

I suspect you want to make a large high quality copy for YouTube & a smaller one for Dropbox?

Handbrake has some presets that seem good enough for most uses.

It should rip from the disc (only non-DRM DVD discs).

Try a few presets & see what suits your needs.
