Just did a Clean Restore to new iOS 10.2 (14C92), Missing Videos app, TV app shows error

Hello there folks,

I recently did a clean restore of iOS 10.2 (14C92) that was released today to everyone.

I no longer can find the Videos app on my iPod touch. When I start this new TV app, all I get is "TV isn't available right now. Check your internet connection and try again", then a blank screen. See screenshot http://imgur.com/HMv5aO0

I am able to drag and drop videos to my device, and all the videos do show up in iTunes under "On My Device". But I can't watch any videos any more.

Are they kidding? I now need an internet connection be able to watch my videos? This was never a problem before, this must be something new. Please keep in mind that I unfortunately do not have any access to wi-fi.

Also, I can't be the only one who may not have access to wi-fi.

Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

My specs iPod touch (6th gen), running iOS 10.2 (14C92), iTunes 12.5.3.17 and 64-bit Windows 10 build 14393.479

iPod touch, iOS 10.2

It's January 25th and I have the exact same issue. Genius Bar couldn't fix it and later I called Apple and worked with a senior advisor for about 5 hours (no exaggeration), same troubleshooting, send up a picture, download this file, upload this zip file, update x, same end result. About to cruise for a week and already paid for some downloads I'll be unable to watch without internet. Seriously?

Hi faithhicks,

I went through the same thing (email, chat, telephone), talking with multiple senior advisors, they couldn't give me any reasonable explanation as to why this new TV app was so problematic.

Update 5 - Apple has recently released the first developer and public beta of iOS 10.3. To my surprise, after doing a clean restore of the public restore, it is now the old Videos app that gets installed and plays all my local video content (non purchased) without the need for a internet connection. The new TV is no longer being installed.

Please keep in mind that this is the first beta release of iOS 10.3, and does introduce the new Apple File System (APFS), replacing the Hierarchical File System (HFS+), and there have been some reports that one might not be able to downgrade back to 10.2 or 10.2.1 under certain circumstances.

It is probably best to wait until Apple releases the final stable version of the next iOS. But for me, it wouldn't be that big of a deal if something did go wrong with this beta because I really don't have that much content to reload (ie: music, videos, apps, etc.).

So far (knock on wood), I am very happy with this first beta of iOS 10.3.

I know this is a string for iPod and I have an iPad Pro. But I have the exactly the same problem.

Quick summary,

1. all firmware are up to date (iOS 10.2.1, I don't have it with me at the moment so I can't list them.)

2. I only have my personal videos in my iTunes library - under "home videos". I have a MacBook Pro.

3. I have been watching the video while I was in a hotel (with WiFi on) for 3 days without any problems.

4. I got on a 12 hour flight, switched on airplane mode and I got the exactly the same problem ("TV isn't available right now. Check your internet connection and try again" or a white screen)

I tried what I could - reboot, kill/restart the app multiple times, without any success.

I have been using the "TV" app since the update and even though I preferred the old video app, I have learned how to navigate it and have had no problems. Until this morning when I tried to open it and have the same problem described above. Not available, check your internet connection, etc. With the corresponding white screen. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating. I tried everything -forcing a close, hard reset, etc., even playing the videos through iTunes, which simply moves me to the app, which obviously does not work!!

I fixed my same issue with my iPad, with this -

Double click your home button and clear all open apps by swiping up. Then let’s go to settings>iTunes and app store and tap your Apple ID and sign out. Restart your device and then sign back in. Once done make sure wifi is turned on and go to the tv app and make sure your downloaded content appears. Then go to airplane mode and check if content still plays. Then clear app again and relaunch and test whilst still in airplane mode.

Hope it works for you.

Same problem. Us resident on vacation in the cayman islands. Tv app keeps failing to load with the error message to check the internet connection. I tried everything and it absolutely will not work without connecting to wifi. It keeps working after you get out of wifi range, but sometimes resets to the error message. I only have content that I synced from Itunes. Very frustrating. I am going to be very upset if it does this on the plane back where I don't have wifi! Someone please find a fix!

OK it seems to work if you keep the app running in the background and don't close it once you connect to wifi. It keeps working away from wifi as long as you keep it open in the background. There really needs to be a fix when you don't have access to wifi! Also it's ridiculous that you have to go into the settings just to delete a video. I want my old videos app back! This one obviously isn't ready.

This is the WORST issue in some time to come from Apple...a horrible oversight on some PMs part with the TV app.

I loaded up my iPad with rental movies from iTunes for a six hour flight (the plane had no wifi), started the app on the flight and the TV app failed to start because `"TV" isn't available right now, ... Check your Internet connect and try again.`

This is absolutely insane. Give me back my video app please.

I had the same issues the Tv app after installing 10.2.1. So you can fix it yourself

by doing this

-make sure you double tap home button

and close all open apps

We signed out of Apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App store, restarted iPad and signed back in. Then reconnected it to wifi, restarted the app and let it load. Went to the "Downloaded" list, turned the wifi back off and all the movies still showed up. Now my movies are in the app and can be viewed even

w/o wifi. If this doesn't work Apple

support can help.

This error is legit. I am an expert iOS user with an IPad using 10.2 and have a lot of videos and tv shows downloaded. I only watch them on airplanes where there is often no wifi or cell signal. If disconnected from the internet i get the TV isn't available right now connect to the internet warning and it goes to white screen. When it does this I have no access to the library and cannot watch. Apple really screwed up on this one. then when I land and get cell connection I can right away see the library again and watch anything I want that is on the device. Apple help !!!
