Duplicate photos on camera roll

I have an iMac (always up to date) and my iPhone 6 (always up to date), what settings do I need to change to prevent duplicate photos on my iPhone camera roll? Whenever I sync up my pictures on my iphone double, and then some of them I can't even delete afterwards.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), macOS Sierra (10.12.2)

Are you syncing with iTunes Photo Sync? iTunes is storing the synced photos separate from the Camera Roll, and you can only delete them by syncing again.

If you transfer your new photos from the iPhone with My Photo Stream, and then include photos that are still on your iPhone into the albums you are syncing with iTunes, you will create duplicates on the iPhone, because they are kept separate.
