Where's my compass?
I lost my compass on my iPad. I think I had pulled it out of the extra folder to leave on the screen but not sure. How can I get it back?

The iPad does not have a compass as a built in app.
iPhones do
That leaves me confused. I was sure I had seen it. However, there's a similar compass on one of the altitude apps I tried. Perhaps that's what I recall. Or perhaps I recall using it on the phone. I've not used the iPad much.
However, to add to the confusion, there is a page, 229, in the iPad User Guide for iOS 10 that describes the use of the compass. It's supposed to be in the extras folder.
Soon. Is there a compass? Did Apple put it in the manual but forget to put it in the iPad? Was there one once but no longer? Is there a way to get the Apple compass? I couldn't find it in the APP store.

Page 229 in the iPad user manual on my iPad is podcasts, nothing shown about compass.
What I'm wondering is, for a while Apple put out manuals based on the iOS a device was running, not device specific. So, as an iPad user, you'd see iPhone stuff in your manual and vice versa. It was very confusing beause they were not very good about clarifying what items were specific to which device.
There's never been a compass on an iPad. I'm sure there are compass apps out there that may work on your iPad. Some might be universal apps, which scale up and down depending on the device they are on, Some may be iPhone specific apps. but they should install on your iPad, they'll just be smaller on the screen because they are made for a phone screen not a larger iPad one.
Sorry about the elementary questions. I've had the iPad for almost a year; got it for a specific purpose but haven't used it for that. The iPad has spent most of it's time on the shelf. Now I'm trying to learn and use it.
Can I do a screen capture on an iPad? I can send you the page if so. The "manual" is in my iBooks. I think I downloaded it when I got the iPad. I recall having trouble finding it. The top of the page is, "iPad User Guide for iOS 10" The heading is "Compass." and the first section is "Compass at a glance." There are 2 pages; 230 talks about the level function. The next segment is on iCloud Drive and the previous one is on Photo Booth. The copyright on page 296 is 2016. Ooooh. At the bottom of the copyright page in fine print is a line that says "Some apps are not available in all areas. App availability is subject to change." Perhaps that explains it?

Hi. By the way, the "page numbers" in iBooks depend on the selected view and text size, so they are not reliable references. And there's no "extras" folder in iPad iOS. It does look like these items leaked in from the iPhone documentation.
One way to do a screen cap is to press and release the home and sleep/power button with a quick up and down motion, like you would the shutter of a camera. That takes a photo of the screen and places it in your photos app.
The manuals are never absolute because it spans so many devices. For example touch ID, which is only on some models of the iPads, yet if I were reading it for my iPad 2 I'd think it has touch ID when it does not.
Well, even though I didn't find my compass I certainly learned a lot more about my iPad. Thanks, all, for your help.
