Photos Not as Sharp as Preview or Photoshop Elements

I've noticed in iPhoto 5.0.4 my photos don't appear to be presented as sharp as they do when I open the same photo in Photoshop Elments 2 or in Preview. In iPhoto 5 I double click the photo to go to edit mode. I have the same photo open in the other applications and when comparing them I notice iPhoto is a tad blurry. Photoshop Elements and Preview look the same when compared.

Is this the same issue in iPhoto 6? I've been thinking of upgrading to iLife 6.

I'll probably wait until after Macworld to see if a new version of iLife is announced.

Thanks for any advice

Kevin:

The problem with V5 is that the the anti aliasing of the image smoothed out the sharpness unless it was view at 100% (use the Edit in separate window option and set the size to 100%). You'll find that the sharpness is there.

V6 does a better job of that along with Tiger and the newest Quicktime.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
