iTunes 12.5.4 shuffle issue

Updated to iTunes 12.5.4 for a large classical library (more than 41,000 individual tracks and nearly 5,000 groupings). I prefer to listen to multi-movement classical works in whole by work, usually not by album. Immediately following update, "shuffle by grouping" fails to recognize all but a tiny few designated groupings. Those it does recognize seem to be by virtue of being included in the last playlist I accessed before update. Using "get info" to reenter groupings doesn't seem to help. Is there a fix?

I Have been sending feedback weekly on this. I still recommend as a fix for the iTunes 12.5.4 mess downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes. The version before this 12.5.4 thing is one that works perfectly fine. I also recommend turning off update and not updating until this massive software coding mistake gets fixed. I have had posts removed by Apple stating this shuffle functionality is broken.

It only shuffles by album, not song. If you have older songs encoded with earlier versions of iTunes, they may shuffle. I had an artist that shuffled correctly. I deleted a couple of albums from database and pasted them back in immediately, and those songs began to only shuffle by album. Importing music using the new iTunes causes the problem, and it goes to the itl file and what iTunes reads from there that is the issue. Since we can't access that database file or have any way to fix it with any applications, it will remain broken for a long while. Apple haven't figured out how to keep that database file from corrupting and when it does the user is left with no options but to revert to older files rather than being able to fix the current one. It's poor design. Other music players don't have this tremendous problem.

Hello, iTunes just came out with version 12.6, but there is nothing out there about it having fixed the Shuffle bug reported here. I would prefer to find out if the bug is fixed before upgrading as downgrading is a bit of a hassle, but I will if I have to. So I am wondering if you have downloaded 12.6 and if you know if it fixed this bug? Thanks!

In fact, track info has new Work and Movement fields.

It seems that when there was a colon ":" in the Title, iTunes 12.5.4.42 created a Work with what's on the left and a Movement with what's on the right...

This did not work too well for me as I mainly used "-" instead of ":", and completely scrambled shuffle by groupings.

I got rid of all the Work and Movement info:

- Selecting the whole library

- Opening Info

- Checking "Use Work and Movement"

- Filling work with a single blank character " "

- Filling movement with a single blank character " "

- Clicking OK (it's a bit long to process)

- Reopening Info

- Clearing work

- Clearing movement

- Clicking OK

- Reopening Info

- Unchecking "Use Work and Movement"

- Clicking OK

The whole process of clearing the Work / Movement fields took more than 10 minutes for my 7830 tracks.

Since then, it works perfectly with all iTunes versions, including 12.6 that I just downloaded and tested (on a Mac though, but I had the same problem)...

12.5.4 broke shuffle in general. Doesn't matter if you're using the "works" grouping. If you shuffle an artist by pressing it on the top of the page it basically ignores it and just plays sequentially downwards. If you shuffle from song view it'll technically work but eventually in the shuffle you'll get full albums in the up next.

-_- Apple come on...

Downgrade iTunes. I went back to 12.5.1 and all shuffle functionality is there. 12.5.4 is a mess and clear example that summarizes Apple's current state of affairs.

I am trying to find a 12.5.3 dog to download, but 12.5.1 was the latest older version I could locate. Easy to downgrade and took about 2 minutes. Hardest part was deleting iTunes and getting around apples locking up the permissions on the application. Once it was finally gone, installed 12.5.1 and low and behold shuffle worked just fine. I then turned off apple asking me to install 12.5.4 and I won't be updating iTunes for a long while. Thanks apple
