Cannot change my apple id email address

I have exactly the same problem - I get a blue circle that rotates continuously but nothing happens, no error messages come up to explain what is happening.

I'm trying to get rid of my btinternet email address as it continuously breaks down, and change all my emails to my icloud address - you would have thought Apple would have wanted to encourage you to use their supplied email address rather than hinder it!!

I Am trying to change from old email address, but it won't accept my current email address which is a gmail account. Says already in use. This is the only apple product I have so how can it be in use? Do I have to create a new Apple ID.

Does anyone know whether anyone from Apple reads any of these posts to understand the frustration their glitch causes and do something about it?

It appears so from the answers above. But what seems worse is that no-one from Apple had bothered to respond - so they either don't bother to check these, or don't bother to answer when they know they have done something really st

If you set up an Apple ID with an iCloud.com, me.com, or Mac.com email address (i.e., any Apple ID with an Apple domain), then you are setting up a permanent, fixed Apple ID under that address. That does not mean you cannot use that email address as, say, a rescue email on another Apple ID, but it does mean it can't be used as an alternate alias or as a replacement primary email address on those other Apple IDs.

Apple ID email addresses that end in iCloud, me, or Mac.com cannot be changed, sorry.

As noted, you cannot use iCloud.com as your AppleID.

Is that true!??? Apple won't accept their own email addresses? crazy.

Well Apple only moderates this forum, so you're never going to get a response from them directly.

If you are right Steve Jobs will be turning in his grave. Who would want to run a customer focussed business nowadays but choose to completely ignore customer feedback in order to improve???
