Macbook running increasingly slow

Hi all,

my macbook of 4+ years has been running increasingly slow recently. After a few unsuccessful tries, I read a few posts in this community and came across Etrecheck.

I run it (with the problem "macbook slow") and here's the output:

EtreCheck version: 3.1.5 (343)

Report generated 2016-12-17 17:33:33

Download EtreCheck from https://etrecheck.com

CyberGhost, SaferVPN, SurfEasy - are these three different products or do they work together? CleanMyMac is not recommended. I noticed that mdworker crashed and that it and mds_stores are two of the top processes running. This indicates that Spotlight is working and it might further indicate that your Spotlight index is corrupt. Your slowdown might be caused by Spotlight constantly indexing. Take a look at this article: How to rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support

Thanks for your reply!

CyberGhost, SaferVPN and SurfEasy are all softwares I once tried to use to change my IP address. I also uninstalled them... aren't they uninstalled? How do I make sure they stop showing up in "launch daemons"?

I did not know I had CleanMyMac. Again, how do I get rid of it? It does not show up in the Application list.

Is there a way to double-check if my Spotlight index is corrupt? For now, I followed the instruction on that page to re-index the files on my computer. I have no clue how long Spotlight is supposed to take to do that.

GO online to the vendors of the programs and check for uninstalling instructions there. Often it isn't enough to just trash the applications.

by following the Spotlight instructions the index should have been deleted. how long it will take depends on how large your hard drive is. The last time I had to rebuild my spotlight index I turn off sleep in the energy control panel and what the computer work on the spotlight index overnight.
