HDCP compliance and Netflix???

Hello,

I have the new AppleTV and my MacBook is running Sierra.

When testing Airplay between the two I got "Whoops, something went wrong... Display Error. There appears to be a display problem. Please ensure your monitor is HDCP compliant and is not mirror using AirPlay."

This is no big deal since there a Netflix app on the AppleTV but out of curiosity (and in case it affected anything else in the future) I tried to fix it.

Restarting doesn't work. The TV is HDCP compliant. I'd rather not install a second web browser.

A possible cause is Displaylink software. I've never downloaded such software myself but I have used HDMI adaptor to display the MacBook on the TV. Would simply using such an adaptor add Displaylink software onto my MacBook.

If so, how can I remove it? I've searched but cannot find anything.

None of this problems occurred when I mirrored a much older Mac to the AppleTV with software called Parrot.

Regards

"Netflix does not support Safari."

I hate to say this, but Netflix is working just fine for me with Safari

That's interesting. I can't get Netflix to work with Safari on my 2012 Mini, not headless. I never have been able to get Netflix to work on any OS. It does work on my 2010 MBP, no external monitor.

I just get that same asinine message.

If I use Firefox on the very same Mini, it works fine.

So, it is true that "Netflix does not support Safari." It just works sometimes, for some people.

Except for a few weeks earlier in the year, I've never had a problem with Netflix on Safari. It might not even have lasted a "few weeks" but that is simply when I next tested it. I don't even remember what the issue was.

And I've never had a problem with the iOS app.

As to the HDCP issue, after first posting here I went on live chat and was told this is an issue known to Netflix and they are working on it. And that the problem is on their end, not Apple.

My guess is you got a customer support agent who simply wasn't up to the job. I'd asked two reps reps over the last week but they both simply pointed me towards the relevant help page. So it took me three attempts to find an agent willing to look into it properly.

Of course, he could be lying to me 😝

FWIW, it may have something to do with the set up John and Barney.

I've been using a 2011 MacMini Server (HDMI)->Yamaha Receiver->Samsung LED TV.

Been watching Netflix with this set up for 3 years now using all the flavors of

Safari and OS X during that time span without any issues. Actually haven't had any

issues with any streaming service.

Maybe it all just likes my combo.
