iPad reset itself today by itself

Strange thing this morning I was using my ipad and it reset itself like a new ipad. It wanted me to restore from iCloud or start of as a new iPad. Since I don't have a iCloud backup I said start of as new iPad. When I completed the steps it looks like all my apps are still there.

But the strange thing is it showed the update available 10.2 which was not there before. So when Apple sent that notice to my ipad it caused my ipad to reset. I thought I had some sort of a virus at first. But it was Apples fault.

Just wanted to document this unusual occurrence.

iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 10.1.1

I've had the iPad for over 2 years and this is the first time this has ever happened, where I was using it and it went into a reset mode and the fact that the update showed immediately after tells me it is not coincidental. I think it is something Apple should review as it leads ones to think they have a virus which is what I thought at first. I immediately forced power off and then turned back on. If this happens to others it will lead to unnecessary concern and contacting Apple support. So by resolving this Apple can save themselves support calls. Just my opinion.

It did take me through the wifi and wanted to restore from iTunes iCloud or set up as new. I set up as new but after it was done I still had all my apps. After the reset I then noticed the message in Settings for the update to 10.2. As far as if it had already downloaded that I'm not sure. I just noticed that before the reset there was no message in Settings and after the reset there was. So Apple has a bug in the notification process by causing the reset.
