You have to do this on the Apple ID website, and it is easiest to do this on a computer. Go to: Apple - My Apple ID via any broswer and then follow the instructions posted in the Apple Recommended post.

I just want my iphone 8 to quit asking me to enable two step verification...I don't want it and the only choice is not now
I managed to turn it off but now it's blowing up my devices with notifications wanting me to finish setting up the two-factor authentication. I don't want it on and I can't stop the notifications. I have 6 devices in my household going nuts because of this. how do I stop the notifications????
I figured out how to stop the notifications that keep popping up after turning off the two-factor authentication. I backed up all of my devices to my computer and one by one restored to factory and then I restored backup. all devices have stopped getting notifications and badges.
Is there any situation in which two factor is actually helpful to Apple customers? I have many Apple devices and I am ready go back paper mail and landline after trying this frustrating "security." It would save me a lot of time.
This answer does not work...I go to APPLE ID section Password and security "edit" only allows changing phone numbers...right now I very angry after 1 hour of trying to view a movie on Apple TV that I purchased...ready to give up!
I also tried keying in my Apple Password followed by the verification number which also did not work!!!!
I am not responding to the Iast message exactly but, too, am having a dickens of a time with two-factor. It asks for a passcode that I've never made or been given. Then hours later a passcode will randomly appear on the screen of one of my apple devices (sometimes but not always the device I was trying to use). Problem is that I can't get back to the screen that asked for this to begin with! In other words, the timing for setting up two-factor is completely out of sync.
It it also asks for my "trusted phone number" which is not my text number. I don't have another trusted number! But when I try to proceed, the whole account is locked and I have to start all over again.......only to bump up against two-factor authentication. This is circular and I imagine this is what the previous poster was referring to.
Well, let's try to establish whether you even need Two-Factor or not. Are you using any 3rd party apps to access your iCloud data (like Yahoo mail or Gmail)? Are you using any Android devices to access your iCloud data?
As far as setting up Two-Factor, you indicate that when you go to your Apple ID page and click on EDIT that it only allows you to change phone numbers. Does it say that Two-Factor or Two-Step is turned on, or do you have to answer Security Questions?

There is no place to Click Turn Off two-step verification on my screen. What do I do now?
See the following from https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204152
How do I turn off two-step verification?
- Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
- In the Security section, Click Edit.
- Click Turn Off two-step verification.
- Create new security questions and verify your date of birth.
You'll get an email confirming that two-step verification for your Apple ID is off.
I have the two-factor turned off already. but it's still showing the notifications trying to make me turn it on. plus it has the badge icon showing on all of my devices.
If someone hacked/knew your Apple ID password, they couldn't sign in anywhere because they don't have one of your trusted devices.
What answer are you referring to? You responded to the OP. What is the issue, exactly?
