How do I centre an image in Preview version 8.1? I see no "helping lines" that tell you when to stop for an image to be centred.
I am attempting to put a single picture right in the middle of a transparent background, both horizontally and vertically.

Preview.app as far back as I remember never had this functionality.
Pages.app does this I suspect.
If it is a one off project you could do it manually with a ruler:

More sophisticated photo editing apps may have this as a feature for ex.

Try another app. like Photo.app
You provide so little information about what you trying to accomplish, it is hard to give any meaningful advice.
Center how? as in cropping??
