Playing animated GIF in iMovie

Is there any way I can put animated GIFs into my movie and make them play out? They're shown as stills as I have them now...

The trouble with GIF format is that it has two methods of display (single image and "frames") and iMovie doesn't properly bring in more than the first frame.
The same issue exists when using PDF format.
I use QuickTime Pro to open animated .gif files and then export them (DV Stream or as .mov format).
Another trouble with GIF is that they use such such varied dimensions. Since iMovie will import and convert to DV they become scaled up into huge blocky messes.
You can use QuickTime Pro to import (and export) your .gif files into iMovie.
If they are small in dimensions simply add a "background" image to the file so they hold their shape and size. Then export this new file as DV Stream.
The GIF format only contains less than 256 colors and even resizing them on a background will not improve their quality.
