my touch ID disappeared from my touch bar on my new MacBook pro.

On my toucher, there is no longer an option for me to use touchID. It disappeared. Now I have to type in my password to unlock my computer. How do I get it to show back up on my touch bar, and what did I do to make it disappear so I don't do it again. Under system preferences my fingerprint is still there so I don't want to add another one.

I talked to the Apple Support and they instructed me to remove a few preferences from my Library folder. Their first suggestion was to wipe the mac, reinstall macOS and restore my data by copying back the data manually.

Before I'd do this I reset the SMC as MoonJ. suggested and I wait to see whether the fingerprints disappear again from my System Preferences.

Hello holy grail,

After reviewing your post, it sounds like the Touch ID feature is not working anymore. It sounds like the feature is still in the System Preferences but not on the Touch Bar at the top of the keyboard. Since this happens before you log into a user account, and if the system still recognizes the system preference, we should check if the hardware is not responding correctly. I would recommend you read this article and use it to help troubleshoot the issue.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac
