Header for group iMessage doesn't have photos

I updated to iOS 10.2 today on my iPhone SE, but I'm not sure that is related to this issue.

I noticed today that my group iMessages now just say '2 People' or '5 People' in the header. These are for group messages that I haven't named.

At the top of the iMessage in that header, it used to show the contact name and a circle with either an initial from the contact or the photo stored with the contact. I still see the circle with either the initial or the photo beside the texts, but not at the header up top.

Anybody else seeing this or have an idea how to correct it? I'd like to be able to know who I'm texting by that header.

Thanks

Rich

Update - I see that these group messages are not considering the iphone users in the group message as iphone users.

The faint text in the text box says 'Text Message', where it used to say 'iMessage'. And when I start typing, the arrow to the right is green rather than blue.

So the question becomes, how do I get my iphone to recognize these contacts as Apple users?

Ok, so everyone is signed into iMessage? Does everyone have an active data connection? You also might want to sign out of iMessage, wait a couple of minutes, then sign back in. Try a forced restart (press and hold the Home and power buttons until the apple appears then let go and allow the phone to finish starting up). Reset your network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Note that you will lose any saved WiFi passwords.

And, my apologies. The SE, being a smaller screened phone, doesn't have the setting for showing contact photos. I'd forgotten that.

It's definitely the iOS 10.2 update.

I updated my work phone several minutes ago - a 5S. I took careful note of the header in my group iMessages before the SW upgrade. Once 10.2 was loaded, the group iMessages now show '3 People' at the header instead of the itemized list of contacts that used to be there.

I continue to get disappointed and frustrated with Apple and iOS.
