Airpods volume is lower on Macbook Pro

Same issue here. I've searched convos about this a couple times now and mostly every search yields conversations about cleaning out earpods. But my AirPods are clearly functioning well. An initial computer connection is even fine. However, I can walk away and whether I get to a disconnecting distance or not, chances are when I get back to my computer and press 'play' on whatever, the volume is so low I can't discern a thing, all while my computer's volume is completely maxed out.

The only thing that has changed the output volume has been connecting to something else, usually my phone, then reconnecting. Magically, there is now a normal volume level.

You should try it and see if this works for you. While it may give you satisfactory volume again, the mystery remains as to why the volume mysteriously got lower in the first place.

I had this problem but you can adjust your Mac’s volume in 1/4 increments by pressing Shift + Option (Alt) + the volume key on your keyboard. It’ll raise your volume at smaller increments so you can find the perfect level. However, beware, I nearly blew mu eardrums out as I had all columns set to max - and that's what came out!

I thought it was too, but then I realized that I was listening to music with iTunes, which has its own separate volume control. That setting was just super low. So I can say that volume with AirPods is just fine --- it is more or less comparable with the volume i get when listening via my iPhone 5SE or iPad Air 2.

When I try to connect my Airpods with my MacBook Pro that is also connected to an external bluetooth speaker (Harman/Kardon Onyx) and change the output to Airpods, the volume is very low at max setting. Only when I disconnect from the Harman/Kardon from bluetooth the volume becomes normal.

The regular volume is also lost when you go into Sound Preferences > Input, if you have the AirPods selected for Input (it sounds low and low bitrate). I've found that if I select in the "Output" tab some other sound device and then re-select AirPods, the volume returns to normal... At least its quicker than connecting to some other device...

Same problem here. Connecting to the phone "restored" the proper volume. Very strange.

I have this problem too. When I connect them to my iPhone and back to my Mac again the volume is fine. Weird.
