Iphone not being displayed on new itunes

I have recently updated my itunes software on my laptop windows 10, at the same time i am also trying to restore an old iphone 5 which is disabled for 23,599,724 minutes. i was reassured that i was to update my itunes software on my laptop it would make it easier for me to restore the iphone back to factory settings. however, i am having a significant amound of issues with it. the phone is not being recognised at all, is there any suggestions of the next steps.
