OK, I think I found the problem. For some reason the computer does not recognize the card because the card has lost its name. This only happened to some of my cards, not all cards.
So you must rename the card so the computer can recognize it.
When you get the error message " the disk you inserted is not readable by this computer" Your options are INITIALIZE, IGNORE, ERASE.
I choose IGNORE.
Now you need to open "disk Utility" by doing spotlight search in upper right corner of Mac Book Pro. click on search, type in disk utility, enter, double click on disk icon.
In the new window on the left side you will see "apple SD card reader" under that you will see a small icon with -- beside it. that is your SD card without a name. You must rename it.
Click that icon.
Now at the very top of the new window you have several options, the option I choose will rename and erase your card. If you are trying to save data on your card you should try one of the other options.
I chose "erase"
IN the new window it shows NAME, you must put a name in here, anything will work, I chose "SD 1", In the field below that you must chose what format you want your card formatted at, I choose "Ex FAT"
Then choose "Erase"
Your card is now reformatted with a new name that your computer will recognize.
Be sure to eject your card properly.
Take your card out and re-insert and it should work properly
