Can I still trade the broken phone to get the iPhone 7?

So recently my provider offered us to get a new plan and to upgrade to the iphone 7, can we trade in a cracked phone that sadly doesn't work to get the new iphone or does the phone have to get fixed in order to get the new phone?

iPhone 6, iOS 10.1, Screen Glitching

Requirements for an iPhone trade is that works correctly with no hardware damage.

Even if the iPhone was repaired, Apple still may not accept it.
