Howdy Willylily,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you are trying to update the software on your Apple Watch but your iPhone says you're not connected to the internet.

Update the software on your Apple Watch

Use your iPhone to update the software on your Apple Watch.

Before you begin

To update the software on your Apple Watch:

  • Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.
  • Make sure your Apple Watch is on its charger and has at least a 50 percent charge.
  • Connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi.
  • Keep your iPhone next to your Apple Watch to make sure they're in range.

  3. Download the update. If asked for your iPhone passcode or Apple Watch passcode, enter it.
  4. Wait for the progress wheel to appear on your Apple Watch. It could take from several minutes to an hour for the update to complete.

Leave your Apple Watch on the charger while the update completes. Don't restart your iPhone or Apple Watch, and don't quit the Apple Watch app. When the update completes, your Apple Watch will restart on its own.

If you need help updating

Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your Apple Watch connects to its charger.
  2. Restart your Apple Watch. Press and hold the side button until you see Power Off, then drag the slider. To turn your watch on again, press and hold the side button.
  3. Restart your paired iPhone. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, then drag the slider. To turn your iPhone on again, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
  4. Try to start the update again.

If the update won't start, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap General > Usage > Software Update, then delete the update file. After you delete the file, try to download and install watchOS again.

If you installed an iOS or watchOS beta or developer seed

Before you update, remove the beta profile from your device. To view and remove profiles:

  • Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap the My Watch tab, then go to General > Profiles. Tap the beta profile that you want to remove, then tap Delete Profile. Enter your iPhone passcode if requested.
  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone, then tap General > Profiles & Device Management. Tap the beta profile that you want to remove, then tap Delete profile. Enter your iPhone passcode if requested.

To continue using the public beta of iOS, you can install the beta profile again.

Cheers!

I am also having this problem. Once in the watch app>general>software update, I do not know how to "delete the update file" as you suggest.

I wonder if I'm having this problem because the watch update was automatically downloaded but not installed before I installed iOS update 10.2. Could my updates be out of sync?

The only thing I haven't tried yet is re-pairing my phone and watch, but I hate doing this because there are places in the health app etc. where all the installations still appear as separate devices so that the data associated with them is saved. I'm hoping there's a less intrusive solution. Thanks for any advice you can give.

Why I cannot do an update on my iWatch? It says that my iPhone is not connected to internet when it is....
