iTunes moved 1000+ songs into my recycle bin

I had been having issues syncing iTunes to my iPod Touch, as not all of the album artwork was appearing on my iPod. I decided to un-sync and then re-sync all of my music. After doing this, I found that not all of my music was appearing on my iPod. It was all still appearing on iTunes, so I restored my iPod, hoping this would fix it. Still no luck, so I clicked to play a song on iTunes and it said the song could not be found. I then tried to locate the songs, and lo and behold, they were not in their album folders. All that was left in those folders was the album artwork. I was flabbergasted, checked my recycle bin, and there they all were, about 1000 unsorted songs floating in my recycle bin. Now I have to move them back to their folders and then relocate them through iTunes. Why did this happen?? Is there a quicker way of reversing this???

iTunes doesn't put anything into the recycle bin unless it's told to. When you choose to remove a song from the library, you are given a choice as to whether to leave it on disc or send it to the recycle bin. And deleting individual songs from an album will leave the album in place. Should you mistakenly delete a song and send it to the recycle bin, you can move it back to the album folder and then do File > Add File to Library to reconnect it to iTunes. If you delete an album, from the recycle bin you can do a File > Add Folder to Library to get it back into iTunes.

As given't iTunes shouldn't move content to the recycle bin unless you specifically tell it to, and even then it would remove the links from the library at the same time. If the library still has entries for the track then restoring from the recycle bin should put the files back where iTunes is looking for them. Closing iTunes and reopening should repair the links.

See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a recommended backup strategy.
