Get notifications on mac and iphone?

If my Mac laptop is asleep, I get notifications of text messages on my iPhone.

If my Mac laptop is awake, I only get notifications of text messages in the Messages app (OS X 10.12 Sierra).

I'd like to get notifications on both devices. Is that possible? The reason is that sometimes I am away from my computer, or I have a full screen app running and I miss the message notification on the computer.

If it's impossible to get notifications on both devices, is it possible to at least set it up to always get notifications on the phone, but still be able to view and reply to messages on my Mac?

Hi,

I have Notifications set as woodmeister50 says.

Both will Sound if the Mac is On and the Messages app is not the "Front" app.

If it is the "front" app then I only here the New Message sound.

The response on the iPhone is the same, no new Tone for an open chat that is "Front".

Hi,

iMessages are Addressed to either the iPhone Number or the Apple ID.

This can mean that ones sent to the iPhone Number are only "answered" in the form of the "Delivered" and "Read" back to the sender.

The iPhone will display the Apple ID iMessages but not give those "replies" out if the Mac is asleep.

It can be helped though if both devices are set to the same Send From ID as this, over time, means all your contacts reply to the same ID (or Number).

Both Devices can be set to show Notifications.

Alerts stay visible until dismissed on the Mac version.

So does the iPhone but you can also choose to display the summary on the iPhone.

When the Mac is asleep is is disconnected from the Internet.

You will not see iMessages (or any other sort) until the app is connected again.
