You need to eject your iPod before you disconnect the USB cable if:

- In iTunes, locate and view your iPod.
- From the sidebar on the left-hand side of the iTunes window, click the eject icon, or press the Command and E keys on your keyboard.
- Your iPod ejects.
If you can’t eject your iPod in iTunes, try these steps.

- In the notification area, click the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" icon.
- In the menu that appears, select your iPod.
