How much disk is needed to install Xcode version 8?

I am trying to install Xcode on an iMac running OS X el capitan.

I have 13.68 GB available on disk.

Xcode version 8.2.1 size is supposed to be 4.55 GB.

When I click Install App I get the message "There is not enough disk space available to install the product."

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), iPhoto 9.5.1

With around 13GB free storage left on your Mac, you should be offloading unnecessary stuff in your home directory to secondary storage, or simply removing stuff in your home directory that you don't need. The operating system needs about 10 - 12% free storage to operate effectively, and when you vaporize this, your machine will either perform horribly, or worst case, not boot at all.
