iPod Won't Stop Alphabetizing Playlists

I've been having this problem lately with my older iPod in that it keeps putting my playlists in alphabetical order. I've checked the playlists on my computer and they're in the right order, so that's not the problem.
I noticed that this particularly occurs when I use the iPod as an alarm. When it's in alarm mode, even the Top 25 Playlist is alphabetized.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, HELP!

MacBook, 2GHz, 512 RAM, Mac OS X (10.4.6), iPod 20GB 4G, iPod Nano 2GB

Note: Even after trying to update the software, I still have this problem. Now even my less-than-year-old Nano is freaking out and deleting songs. What's going on?

In iTunes select a playlist.
Click on the column you want it sorted on. Do this for all playlists.
Sync the iPod.

I've done this, and the iPod will be correct, but then it will turn on a second time or so, and all of the music will be in alphabetical order again. It's the strangest glitch, and it's happening with both of my iPods. I've updated my iTunes, so maybe that will help.
