I tried to change my Apple ID. I got this message: "Your new Apple ID cannot be the same as your notification email address. Choose a different email address". So how do I change my "notification email address"? That is the one I need to use now.

I know. That's why I kept getting the message that "apple ID can't be same as notification (rescue) email" but I didn't know how to access my rescue email. I finally found it in the "Security" section by selecting "edit." Then it showed up. I had been looking in the "Account" section 😐.
Thanks for the reply. What I hadn't realised is that I have to click "Edit", in the Security section, in order to see the "Notification Email". With your prompting I eventually found it and all is now well.

I added the email I want to change my apple id to under "reachable at" at the link you provided, then tried to change my apple id to that email address & still got the message "apple id cannot be notification id." The email I wanted to change to wasn't in "reachable at" the 1st time I tried to change apple id, so where do I find the "notification id?"
Maybe you need ANOTHER email address for NOTIFICATION.
That is what it seems to me to be breaking down towards.
Then wait a day or two, then go back and put any address you want as your new Apple ID.
I'm having the same problem and maybe that is the only solution I am able to track down.
What do you have set up as your Rescue e-mail? It can't be the address you are trying to make your Apple ID.
What is my "notification email address"? And how do I change it?
