I've updated my iPhone and iPad software but now my iMac iTunes can't see them!!

I've updated the software on my iPhone 5s and iPad Air 2 but now my iTunes won't recognise them, so I can back them up.

I have a OS X Lion 10.7.5 with 3GB of memory.

I had a new 240GB SSD hard drive put in last year and it runs fine for what I use it for.

My iTunes is version 12.2.2.25.

Please can somebody advise me on what to do?

Thanks.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

You need to upgrade the computer's OS to at least Mavericks if it's possible on your model. Try downloading El Capitan or Sierra from the Mac App Store.

Hi Niel,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried both but it says they can't be installed on my Mac.

Any more suggestions by any chance?

Thanks.

Your computer may need to be updated or replaced. Please look over the system requirements for El Capitan below:

Apple notes that OS X El Capitan runs on the following Mac categories:

  • iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
  • MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, Early 2009 or newer)
  • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
  • MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
  • Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
  • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
  • Xserve (Early 2009)
  • 6GB of RAM

I've updated my iPhone and iPad software but now my iMac iTunes can't see them!!
