Uninstall Clean My Mac 3. It is poison for your Mac and can bork any system!

http://macpaw.com/support/cleanmymac/knowledgebase/how-to-uninstall-cleanmymac-3

Don’t download software from third party sites. If you use torrents, don't. Torrents are a good way to pick up malware because it can hitchhike in on a download package and you’ll never know it.

Dec 26, 2016 12:32 PM in response to mzulske

Please be advised that the entire category of "cleaning" products have the capacity to corrupt a Mac's file system to the point that erasing the Mac completely is often the only practicable solution. Merely removing "CleanMyMac", even it is it performed properly and in accordance with its instructions, does not reverse the corruption it is capable of inflicting upon a system.

Very briefly put, the recovery procedure from having used such things is as follows, and in the following order:

  1. Back up the Mac using Time Machine or an equivalent backup strategy
  2. Remove the scam "cleaning" products according to their instructions, and evaluate
  3. Reinstall macOS using macOS Recovery, and evaluate
  4. Reinstall all other potentially affected apps, and evaluate
  5. Erase the Mac completely, followed by reinstalling macOS, followed by reinstalling essential apps from their original sources, followed by migrating User content from the Time Machine backup.

Since the results of Steps 2-4 are almost always unsatisfactory, I omit them as unnecessarily time-consuming.

Dec 26, 2016 1:14 PM in response to mzulske

You can use ccleaner to disable/delete extensions, plug ins and all sorts of programs that remain open even if you close them by clicking on the red x... this is very common to see on most macs... I would suggest repairing permissions but sierra does that automatically for you so thats not the case here... Just make sure you clean your mac and double check RAM/CPU Usage with "activity monitor" you can launch it via the spotlight... if you see something is not right you can use your Time Machine or do a clean install to fix it. I just did that, and my laptop (after a year of use) is back to normal.

Dec 26, 2016 1:28 PM in response to Allan Eckert

By default ccleaner won't delete any files or kexts your OS requires to boot or function properly. However if you decide to change the defaults the program will tell you what you are about to do may generate some malfunctioning on your system. The only use you give it is to clean the start up launchers (which Mac does not need unlike other OS) clean extensions, and browser history including cache... unlike other cleaners this one does not touch any kexts which is the core foundation on any Mac based system, therefore it is safe to use if you know what you are doing, specially if you don't use it to clean or repair permissions which as I mentioned before Sierra does by itself.

OS X Sierra takes like 6 minutes to shutdow/reboot
