Watch not receiving every text?

Can anyone help me figure out why my watch doesn't receive every notification or message at the same time my phone does? Example: Girl texts my phone after not being used for a while, watch lights up showing new message, new message can also be viewed in watch's notifications and messages app. Girl texts my phone after not being used for a while, watch stays dark, nothing in notifications. Open the messages app on watch and there's the new text. Both times phone vibrated/rang. It's frustrating because if my watch doesn't show me every new notification when it comes in, it defeats the whole purpose of a smart watch lol

Apple Watch Series 2, iOS 10.2, Went through Apple support already

Hi

How notifications behave depends on the status of your devices and your settings. With Wrist Detection enabled, in order to bring notifications to your attention as soon as possible:

If your iPhone is unlocked, you will receive notifications on your iPhone instead of on your watch.
If your iPhone is locked or asleep and your watch is unlocked (regardless of whether the watch screen is asleep or awake) and on your wrist, you will receive notifications on your watch.
If your watch is locked or has Do Not Disturb enabled, notifications will go to your iPhone.

I am having a similar problem. My watch will show me the notification of the message, but the message isn't actually in the thread when I open the message app. It does this with 1 in every few messages that come to me. I can view the messages on my phone, but it seems weird that the watch would notify me and then not display the message.
