Stalling for detach from IntelAccelerator, nvAccelerator

Hi All

Recently my iMac and MacBook Pro have started to hang regularly for something like up to a minute before they continue to operate normally. Often I can still move the mouse pointer during the hang, but in any case I can't click on anything any more. The message in the Console is:

kernel: Stalling for detach from IntelAccelerator

or

kernel: Stalling for detach from nvAccelerator

So it seems this has something to do with the graphics. This has started after the latest updates, and after I had installed VirtualBox, but I have no idea whether or not this is related to the problem. Any help is much appreciated.

OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Try uninstalling VirtualBox and see if it stops.

I have the exact same symptoms on my mid-2012 MBP (nVidia + Intel) running 10.11.6. I do software development in a bunch of VMs every day, and this definitely started in the past couple weeks. I think it's likely a bug or incompatibility between the latest OS update and VirtualBox.

None of my guests use 3D, so I've rolled back from VirtualBox 5.1.12 to 5.1.10 to see if it makes a difference. The VM that seems to be the trigger does use the guest additions, though, so there's some interaction on the video side.

I'm leaning towards an OS issue (perhaps a new video driver) on this one, because even after shutting down the offending VM, followed by all the others (an awful experience with the constant hangs), I still get really laggy scrolling or resizing in a browser window and end up rebooting.

Here are some of the logs, lots of video detaching and watchdogs:

VirtualBox may be one trigger for this problem, but it certainly isn't the only one - since I never had VirtualBox while I get the same problem intermittently after the latest El Capitan security update. Moreover, I can go for several days after a restart before this problem occurs, so it may take considerable time to be sure if one has isolated a software trigger.

No virtualbox or any other VM running on my machine, but El Cap 10.11.6 and mid-2012 retina Problems started with last patch. I initially thought that a firefox plugin was causing the problem but finally had it reappear when firefox was not running. Will not appear for hours after a reboot as well. I do run Macports and Java 8 but the problems do not sem to have any relation to either of those. Typically the problem has appeared when I am running vanilla apps.

I have the same problem with a Mac Mini (Late 2012) and an iMac (2016). in the first case the message is "stalling for detach from IntelAccelerator", in the second "stalling for detach from nvAccelerator".

The application typically running are: Mail, Safari, Console, iterm2, MacVim, Preview, Mathematica, LatexIt, Creative Cloud, Adobe Illustrator CC 2017.

The problem is more frequent when I start using computer after a period of inactivity.
