Default ipad video player gone - how do I play videos offline now?

Hi, I think in the latest upgrade (10.2) the video player has been replaced by the "TV" app? I've downloaded some videos from iTunes to play locally (broadband speed in Aus in terrible) and I used to just find them in the Videos app - when I go into the TV app it shows everything I have ever purchased and only seems to play from the cloud - not locally. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

It requires a freaking internet connection which is an absolute DOWNGRADE to how it used to work. For example I would BUY and download all my movies/TV shows I wanted to watch and would take my iPad to the gym to exercise and watch the videos during that offline. I keep my iPad offline and mostly powered off when not used to preserve the batter life and the gym's in my area do not have Internet Access.

Apple in their infinite wisdom it seems like are trying to force you to have your device always on and connected to the internet.

So basically now I have to keep my iPad on and get it connected to the Internet to launch offline videos. That's some crappy DRM overreach if you ask me. And is an absolute downgrade that is really causing me to rethink buying anything more on Apple iTunes because of it.

I was on a southwest flight just the other day and turned on my iPad to watch a video I had purchased and downloaded to it the night before. Well guess what... I couldn't watch it because the 'TV app unavailable without Internet connection' message I received (that wasn't verbatim but essentially what the message when trying to launch the TV app said'.

How do I downgrade back to older iOS to get the Video app back which allowed me to view TRULY offline with no kept powered on/hit the Internet for DRM crap?

This is very infuriating change for something that should have been obvious to the developers. I'm thinking it's more of a specific shift for DRM or something, come on Apple, I was invested completely in your iTunes until this major change...

The only fix that worked for me after the same issue was:

Please set a appointment to your nearest local apple store. This should be a free fix. delete your back up in icloud after explaining the problem to the apple employee and reinstall as new. re-login to you itunes and down load the items missing apps and songs movies tv. log into each app while at the store to confirm this has fixed the issue. Its what I had to do to get the offline TV App to allow me get past a message stating please reconnect to the server Tv App is not available at this time. I have a screen shot of it saved to show the apple care employee, I also have a screen shot of how its supposed to work while offline. (sigh apple needs to train the techs better at the apple store and issue a fix for this massive issue or just state they no longer offer offline play for purchases from Itunes something that would be a major mistake customer wise. I would after the re-install change my apple password and login for the device while at the apple store.
