My Apple TV keeps asking for ID, password, and verification over and over.

Hi. You may have experienced the code timeout. It's only good for about 30 seconds. This link: Re: appleTV keeps asking for appleID, password and authentication code circularly has the best description of a method which seems to work. Alternatively, you can login to your Apple ID in a browser and turn off 2-factor authentication.

Hi Ball_Lake. Have you tried logging out, then using the procedure described here to login? Enter your Apple ID and password, but do not send it. Get a code using Settings on the phone, and add the code to the password. You can report this to Apple at this link: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple.

Just did the recommended reply below and it still didn't work. I have wasted hours on this so will now give up. I just go round in circles being asked for apple id and password and I know they are correct.

Hmmm. This seems a little backward: I plug in the AppleTV since I took it to my second home, and it wants to login. I reply yes on my phone and it gives me a code, but I have to manually enter this each time it is powered on? I believe this is unworkable. The device SEEMS to be working OK, but it may not be able to do updates anymore?

How is Apple going to remedy the poorly thought through scenario being used by their two-factor authentication on devices THEY control?

Maybe time to can everything Apple and go with someone who has thought things through a little better.

I just entered my password on apple tv four times in a row to listen to my music. this is a recent problem that I used to have. It doesn't ask me for any other app or content. I do not have 2 factor authentication turned on, and I enter the password correctly every time. I tried entering the password in settings, but there isn't actually any place to do that.

I'm only commenting to commiserate with some of the posts. This is the most painful and ridiculous process to try and order a movie. After 30 minutes of going around in circles, I finally was able to rent and PAY for the movie! I spent a 1/4 of the length of the movie I ordered, trying to access it. Just ludicrous.

Hi. You need to use Settings on your trusted device to obtain a code first, then login on the Apple TV, adding the code to the end of the password, no space or punctiation. See Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support.

Since last week when I go to Apple TV, and try and watch purchased content in my library like TV Series or Films, up pops that I have to sign in. I sign in with username and password and get now a 6 digit code. When I put the 6 digit code in, it sends me back to my username for inputting again. And so on. Or it shuts me down and I have to unplug the apple tv unit.

Question> What should I do, and how do I go back to the old system of not needing to receive a 6 digit code on my cell phone, every time I want to watch apple TV?

Hi. Did you enable 2-factor authentication when you updated your iPhone? You can turn it off by logging in to your Apple ID on the web, https://appleid.apple.com/. But did you try the technique of getting the code first, then adding it to the password? Once that's done, the Apple TV should not require it again.

Thank you Diana. I turned off the 2 factor authentication and now I am back to before with only username and password. Great.

This procedure does not work. ATV3 tells me the password is incorrect (which it is - it has 6 digits appended to it).

This started happening to me and I went to Settings, signed off, signed back on and added my password and verification code one more time and it worked.
