Application Icons suddenly gone. (Classic Mode)
Today I was trying to connect an older OS9 machine to my G5 via TCP/IP (which I have done before, and I think I know why I can't now, not a major problem since I can still transfer files via Appletalk).
Suddenly, I noticed that most of my OS9 applications' icons were turned into generic icons that looked like a blank sheet of paper with a ruler, pencil, and paintbrush making an "A" in the bottom right corner. Not all of my applications were affected. I first noticed it with the Desk Accessories (OS9's Apple System Profiler, Chooser, Calculator, and Key Caps all now have this icon), and soon found others that were changed. All the Control Panels were changed to this icon, except for "Extensions Manager" and "Keychain Access", which were the only 2 OS9 control panels to keep their icon. Also, all my DocMaker apps' icons were changed. I probably have yet to discover most of which apps' icons got stripped.
Another thing I noticed is in OS9's "Recent Applications folder" that all the icons there were a generic "document" icon (just a blank sheet of paper). Even applications whose icons were not stripped look like this in the recent items folder after being opened.
The only thing I know to try is Rebuilding the Classic Desktop in the Classic preferences of OSX. I have rebuilt its desktop several times, but it didn't help. The rebuilding process also seems to take only a split second. The first time I did it after a reboot, it took about a second or two, then further times took a split second. I was sure it took longer than this when I did it before, but I could be wrong. Even on a Dual 1.8Ghz G5, it should take longer, right?
Does anyone know what is going on? Is there a way to get my icons back?
Thanks.
Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5, Mac OS X (10.3.9), also have iBook 366MHz (Clamshell, OS 9.2)
