album art not showing

The album art on my iPod Classic (v2.0.4) has suddenly stopped displaying. I am using the latest iTunes software (12.5.4).

I have tried resetting the iPod by sliding the button on the top to hold and back and then rebooting the iPod by clicking the central and top buttons down for a couple of seconds until the Apple symbol appears. This has not worked.

Can anybody help?

Hi again, kwelstrop.

Thank you for checking and letting us know that iTunes shows album artwork properly, and that when you buy new music from iTunes, that the artwork also displays properly.

At this point we'd like you to try to restore the iPod while connected to iTunes. By restoring the iPod, it will remove everything from the iPod and then put everything back onto it. Hopefully it will bring all the album artwork back onto the iPod and it will display properly.
  1. Launch iTunes and plug in your iPod classic via USB.
  2. On the main iTunes screen where it shows your iPod, click the Restore button.
  3. After your iPod restores, re-sync your content to your iPod.
Take care.

Hi there kwestrolp.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities and thanks for bringing your question about album art no longer showing up on your iPod classic. I love my iPod classic and seeing album art is a nice way to recognize what's currently playing. I'm happy to help you out today.

Since the art has stopped displaying on your iPod, does the art still show up in your iTunes library? Try syncing your iPod to your iTunes to check that the artwork can make its way over to the iPod.

Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes on your computer using USB
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions.
Take care.

Thanks for your reply. The artwork displays okay on iTunes and syncing my iPod with iTunes does not have any effect on the artwork.

However I have just bought some more music and the artwork is displaying. I think the only way to get the artwork to display would be to either select ' Get Artwork' so that it repopulates it on iTunes/IPod or, if that does not work, load it in manually (unless ether is an easier way to do this?).

Thanks for your help here.

I have now restored the iPod but I am struggling to get it to sync with what I have on iTunes. I have clicked on the IPod and then on the 'Sync' button at the bottom right of the screen but it is like it is not accepting the click.

When I have tried to do this through the menu (File>Devices), the sync option is not available only 'Transfer purchases from my iPod'.

Do you have any further suggestions or is my iPod corrupted?

Hey kwestrolp.

It sounds as if the iPod classic hasn't been fully restored. A restored iPod will not have any information on it, and will be as if it's brand new, factory restored. It should not offer to transfer purchases to your iTunes library.

We encourage you to try to restore the iPod one more time, and if afterwards you are still unable to sync your iPod classic, then you will want to contact Apple Support for further assistance.

Again, thank you for being a part of the Apple Support Communities.

Best wishes.
