iPhone 6 battery issue

I have an iPhone 6 that was working great up until this fall. Since then my battery life has been terrible and very erratic. I have reverted to factory and reinstalled selective apps and all of that sort of stuff. At present it will make it almost through a work day before reaching 40% - then it dies - yes at 40% is shuts off. If it does not shut off I can basically watch it drain from the 30% mark on down till it dies by just waking it ever couple of minutes and seeing the battery drop each time. This is with all apps closed.

From what I hear this is similar if not the same thing that is happening with the 6s that they are actively replacing the batteries in under a warranty program. Any chance Apple will provide fix for the 6 as well? I love my phone and really need it to be more reliable.

Got the exact same issue with my 6. Not really sure when it started, since I've been having it for a while, up a year now.

There's a lot of weirdness around the problem, and it's not much different from what I've read the problem is with the 6s.

  • After being fully charged, it can just shut off, without any warning of low battery. This can be as little as an hour after being fully charged.
  • If I then plug in and charge, it says around 40% instantly.
  • Or if I wait about 20 minutes, it can most often be restarted again. Battery bar can, but not always, then say 1%, but still for a few hours.

So I doubt it this is directly linked to wear n' tear on the battery.

I contacted Apple Support on this, and it turns out they are investigating a similar problem with the iPhone 6 as well, but nothing was decided.

I suggest you open a ticket with them as well as it's more likely they'll act if more have the problem. I recommend using the Apple Support app to contact them since that allows them to run diagnostics of the battery. I used the unexpected shutdown option as problem area.

Also worth noting is when the news broke about the replacements for the 6s over at Macrumors, several 6 owners described a similar problem.

Also worth noting is that several owners of iPhone 5S, 5C, 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, 3G and the original iPhone have described similar problems over the past 9 years. So it is no surprise that several owners of iPhone 6 have described the problem also. Most often it is a failing battery. Even the 6S that are recalled is a failing battery; the reason that Apple is replacing them is they are failing prematurely.

And sometimes it is simply that the battery gauge needs to be recalibrated.
