iPhone 6 will only charge on a dock. Anyone else have this?

My iPhone 6 (two years and 2 months old so a but if an antique I grant you) is suffering from the dreaded 10.1.1 (and 10.2) battery drain. It doesn't shut down at 30% like some, it just drains completely in about half a day but, that aside, the issue I have is that it won't charge on any cable. I have collected many Apple lightning cables over the years and I have many wall sockets in my house but my phone does not respond to any combination of them. However, attach any one of those cables to my one and only charging dock and hey presto, happy days! So now, if I want to actually use my phone, I need to charge it regularly throughout the day and I only have one way to do it - and not the most practical one at that. Has any one else experienced this kind of issue and, if so, was it permanent (so far)? Thanks for any thoughts

the cables are reversal and the dock would usually be used in the same orientation each time

if the connector is half defect and the cables you have attempted to connect connects to the dead part

and the dock to the working part that could explain it

try connecting the cable the other way around

if that don't help then maybe the dock is a bit thicker in the connector and the defect gotten a big loose connector gets a connection with the thicker connector and not with the thinner cable
