HDMI2AV converter to digitize VHS on macbook
Hello! Essentially I am trying to connect a VHS machine to my Mac using an HDMI/AV converter. However, my macbook doesn’t recognize that I have any input from a device. I’ve turned everything off and on, unplugged and re-plugged again, and done a fair amount of googling. I hope you can help!
I am using an HDMI2AV converter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LRNBD3Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UT F8&psc=1) with an HDMI cable plugged into my macbook pro '13 (early 2015) on OSX 10.11.6 . I see that there are other ways to digitize VHS tapes using more expensive software and hardware for conversion. However, I already had this converter on hand, so thought i would try this out first rather than purchase other equipment.
Anyway, it’s all hooked up now, but no device shows up. My mac recognizes that there is an HDMI plugged in under the display option, since it says “HDMI to VGA” is an option under display. Basically, my screen looks like it would when I’m using a projector or plugged into another external display (I can return display to normal by selecting "built in display." Of course I want to flip this, and use my mac to play/record from the AV cables.
What other info can I provide to get some assistance? Thanks in advance for any advice!
