Change apple ID on a computer

I was going to sell my mac mini to a friend, but the deal fell through.

I'm getting notices that there are updates available, but first it tries to log in on his account, then tells me that I can't update the software using my own apple ID. How do I change the system so that my Apple ID is the one associated with the computer?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.5), Photos

That is how to change the email address attached to my apple ID. I found that article.
I am trying to change the default email address on a particular computer.

There may have been a problem because there was one application installed by someone else, and rather than letting me continue and update everything else, or give me any indication of the problem, update just failed entirely. It wasn't until I updated things one at a time that I figured out what that problem was.
