I am trying to change the default email address on a particular computer.
There may have been a problem because there was one application installed by someone else, and rather than letting me continue and update everything else, or give me any indication of the problem, update just failed entirely. It wasn't until I updated things one at a time that I figured out what that problem was.
An AppleID is not tied to the Mac, but to the apps purchased with the AppleID.
If he Purchased any apps, then they would only be updatable by his AppleID.
If he is still signed into iCloud with his AppleID, then sign out.
