Loopback clicks and pops

I've spent hours trying to diagnose this but to no avail.

The gist is, some loops (drums or beats or syncopated notes) turn out ok

Loops that are pad like or drone like to have a note carrying over loopback always introduces an annoying click/pop sound at the start of the loop every time.

I've tried all settings, I've tried to time my record in all sorts of ways but didn't solve this.

I tried 3 other loopers (Ableton, Superlooper, RC3) and none of them have this problem.

A few years ago an Eventide unit with a looping function had a similar issue and it was a bug that was fixed.
