icloud activation lock

My iPad has been activation locked, and my email doesn't work. Apparently I'm not the only one facing this problem. Apple has somehow managed to jumble up iCloud accounts and linked many user's devices with stranger accounts. Does anyone have any way to solve this?

Well, your options are to call Apple Support in Australia (the one with ads is not Apple Support). Click on this link and see if the number listed for Australia is the same one you were trying: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

OR, take your device with the original purchase receipt to the nearest Apple Store along with a photo ID, and they should be able to remove the lock for you. If they cannot do it in Malaysia, you may have to wait until you return home.

Best of luck,

The request for my login details are required when i try to restore the ipad using my computer's itunes. Meaning I can't even manage to restore it. It's basically a block right now

I found the link of many others experiencing the exact same issue (buying first hand devices but the devices are linked to icloud accounts which aren't theirs) This is the link: http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/users-report-some-iphone-7-and-6s-models-act ivation-locked-with-wrong-apple-ids.2004…

I can't reset the settings through the ipad or the computer. Basically when you turn on the device the activation lock comes out, and you have to enter your email and password to continue. You're stuck on just that screen. I've entered my details, and it says that my account is not linked with the device. I bought it first hand and have only used my own details on the device. In the link above are many more people facing the same issue, but so far I haven't seen a solution. They're just as confused as I am.

I've tried calling the apple support numbers on the apple website. (I'm from Australia but currently in Malaysia for holidays). I called the Australian number but it's full of ads asking me to buy things (not sure why? maybe they put the wrong number?) I then called the Malaysian apple number, and the machine said they're currently not in service, and "please go to the website for maintenance help" or something like that.

Before we can help you, we will need to know if you are the original owner or did you purchase this second hand? If you are the original owner and forgot your Apple ID, start here: https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid. If you got it second hand, you will need the prior owner to remove their activation lock. I do not believe that Apple has mixed up accounts and linked devices with strangers accounts. It seems that frequently people purchase second hand devices and fail to have the prior owner remove their ID and passcode.

I am the owner of this iPad. The iPad was bought from an Apple Store. Even opened the plastic wrapping of the box myself. I came across a discussion with someone experiencing the exact same thing, apparently it's been happening to devices running on iOS 10, mostly iPhone 7's

I turned on my iPad two days ago and it just said activation locked. I went to my iCloud account, but the iPad isn't in that account. The email hint that it gives is mine, because I am the only one who uses hotmail instead of gmail in my family. (Hotmail's are pretty out of date now)

I'm also sure that I did not enter the wrong password because I logged into the App Store just fine. I also attempted to enter the wrong password. When I enter the wrong password it says "passcode incorrect", but when I type in the correct password it says "this account is unassociated with this iPad" or something similar.

Also, the iPad is not associated with my iCloud account but still on my list of devices on the Apple webpage when I log in.

I can't turn it off, because when I log in to my iCloud account and find my iPhone app this iPad isn't even linked with my account. But when I go into my list of devices on the Apple webpage when I log in, it's there. My iPad just says the Apple ID I use is unassociated with the iPad. I'm sure it should be the one unless Apple jumbled it up with someone else's because only I use a hotmail instead of gmail in my family. I'm also sure I didn't enter the wrong password because when I entered the wrong password on purpose it said passcode incorrect but when I entered the correct password, it says ID not associated with this iPad. It's a big possibility that Apple jumbled the icloud accounts up, because I came across a few discussions saying their devices do not respond to their ID's even though they bought their devices first hand with Apple as well. Apparently it's been happening to more iPhone 7's and iOS 10 devices

(My iPad runs ios10)

If you are not seeing the device listed in your Find My iPhone app in iCloud, then it is not Activation Locked to that iCloud account. You see it listed on your Devices list because it is running iOS 9 or later. That list has nada to do with iCloud or Find My iPhone.

You are indicating that the request for your password comes up when you go open the iTunes app? If so, then there is a different problem, because Activation Lock only comes up when you have reset the device.

Can you get to the Settings? If so, go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content & Settings. When you set it up, set it up as a new device (not from a backup). Unless the device is actually locked to a different Apple ID, that should remove the prompt.

If it does, you can then erase it again and try to restore it from the backup, but if the issue comes back when you do that, then you are going to have to manually set up your device again.

Best of luck,
