Can't connect to 5ghz wifi channel in Bootcamp Win10 new MacBook Pro 15" w/touch

The title is pretty explanatory. I cannot connect to my 5ghz wifi channel while in Bootcamp, Win10. It connects on my phone, my wife's iMac, and on the MBP in MacOS no issues...just on Windows in Bootcamp it won't connect to 5ghz. Says "cannot connect". It sees the network, just won't connect to it. Zero issues with 2.4.

I've tried updating the drivers, running Apple update, updating in App Store, etc. Everything seems completely up to date with both windows and Sierra.

Devices that can use the same 5ghz channel:

2015 iMac Windows 10

2015 iMac Mac

Microsoft Surface Tablet Windows 10

2012 MacBook Air Windows 10

2012 MacBook Air Mac

iPhone 7+ x2

iPad Mini 2

iPod Touch

2016 MacBook Pro w/Touch Mac

Only 2016 MacBook Pro w/Touch in Windows 10 cannot connect to 5ghz. I'm on the 5ghz channel right now on Mac typing this.

Here's what I did to get my MacBook to connect to an 802.11n 5ghz network:

Open device manager and right click -> properties on the Broadcom network adapter

Select the "Advanced" tab

Select the "Bandwidth Capability" item in the list

change the value to "11a/b/g:20mhz"

Close the window and you should be able to connect to the network just fine. Now, if you're experiencing high latency or disconnections after that, try disabling "Microsoft RRAS Root Enumerator" under Software Devices and see if that helps.

What does the update to iCloud has to do with the wifi drivers ?

The release notes do not mention any fixes to the driver

It is related to Re: BootCamp fails to start after upgrade to MacOS Sierra 10.12.1 . Some updates are pushed out regionally. You may or may not see the same update at the same time as others do. It is related to an update, which may or may not contain iCloud.

Create a Windows System Restore point before you do either of the following.

If you run Apple Software Update on the Windows side of 2016 MBP, do you see a WLAN Update?

If not, from the OS X side, download the latest BC6 software for your 2016 MBP using BC Assistant -> Action -> Download... to a USB flash drive and then try to run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder.

My bootcamp partition works fine, is just the wifi that is broken

The thread is related to a different set of issues, but the specific post I linked to is related specifically to WiFi on 5GHz. If you do not see a WLAN update, it may not be available wherever you are located. I suggest trying Apple Software Update later.

Well this is a showstopper bug, we really need a fix now.

Yes, many users need it. I suggest calling Apple Tech Support and asking them specifically about Bootcamp and any updates released in the last 48 hours. If you get into the general queue, it will take you a while.

As an alternative, used a wired connection, if possible.

iCloud update is not going to fix network bootcamp drivers, come on man.

It is not an iCloud update, it is a WLAN update. I suggest checking Apple Software Update for any available updates. Please also remember that wireless networks come in all variants.

If a Windows PC connects to the same 5G network as OS X on Mac can, but BC/Windows cannot, it should be mentioned to the Apple Support folks.

Running Wireshark and capturing WLAN packets can tell you what the difference is between the two clients.

You have to be a developer to use that feature.

Which takes 30 seconds or less using your Apple ID.

Between that suggestion and the suggestion of updating iCloud, I'm thinking you should probably just stop trying to "help"

Yes, I should. There is no point in banging my head against the wall. Please post back when you find a solution. 😁

Firstwardo,

Thank you very much, you solved one of only two major issues I'm having with this laptop. The other issue is that the Logitech MX Master stutters in Windows Boot Camp when connected to a 2.4ghz WiFi network. But I don't think we can fix that without Logitech updating drivers or something.

Unfortunately the personal hotspot and stuff on the phone and many public networks seems to broadcast at 2.4, and I have to use the unifying receiver with adapter (Which sticks out far on the new MBP) when in Windows. Like at work when I use my hotspot exclusively.

Any ideas there lol
