Should I buy the new Macbook Pro, or upgrade my 2009 Macbook Pro?

I've done my research and have been contemplating for at least a year on what I should do.

I currently use my laptop for to use Adobe products (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro). In the future I plan to work more on doing VFX and Motion Graphic stuff, so I'll probably ended up using programs such as Maya, Nuke, and Cinema 4D.

I still run on Snow Leopard, so this has prevented myself from using the latest versions of Adobe software, but it hasn't caused any significant issues for me.

The only thing that has been holding me back from buying the latest Macbook is that I won't be able to do any upgrades such as adding more ram (Retina display does not really matter to me too much).

On my 2009 Macbook I've upgraded 2GB of ram to 8, which really made a difference on speed. I'm running low on space so if I upgrade to a SSD the upgrade would be significant as well.

if I choose to upgrade my Mac, I'll have to get my trackpad fixed and do a batter replacement (I haven't changed it since I bought it! It has a 2381 cycle count!)

Either way, if I purchase the newest Mac it would still be beneficial as it would be a major upgrade.

Lastly, if I purchase this new Mac, should I get the 15inch because I read that it would be more beneficial for intensive work, but I personally prefer something smaller, so I can carry it around.

What do you guys think? Your opinions are much appreciated.

Money isn't a issue.Thanks!

Hi,

Without question, I'd get the new MBP. Get the 15" as it's a quad core, vs a dual core in the 13" model. It's only about a pound more in weight. It automatically comes with 16GBs of RAM, which is the max, so you don't have to worry about that. If, for some reason, you get the 13", make sure you get 16GBs of RAM. If money is no issue, go ahead and configure to the highest processor, GPU and flash storage. That should be one nice machine. 🙂
