Orientation is locked even though lock is off

I just got a new iPad Air 2 in September. Every once in a while, when I open the case to use the device, the orientation is locked, usually on landscape when I want to use it in portrait. I have orientation lock off. When I'm not using it, I have it leaning upright against a table. The only fix I've been able to come up with is to turn my iPad off and turn it back on. Is there a better fix? What could be causing this? I'm sometimes in landscape mode when I close the case but it's not always locked when I open it after that.

iPad Air, iOS 10.1.1, 2nd generation, WiFi only

Hi. This old problem has resurfaced on iPad Air 2. Try turning off Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion. If that doesn't help, install a Clinometer from the app store, and run it when rotation locks. Please report it to Apple here https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html and be sure to mention your specific device.

I actually have iOS 10.2 (for whatever reason it wasn't an option when selecting my iOS version for the question). I did download a clinometer app and opened it up after my home screen froze. While it wasn't an immediate fix my screen hasn't frozen since.

Hi

Swipe up control panel in home screen make sure padlock is off

Some apps only work in landscape mode.

I guess I should have been more specific. The orientation lock option in the control panel is turned off, meaning the orientation of my iPad should adjust as I rotate it. The orientation is locking on my home screen as well as apps that adjust as I change the orientation (e.g. Twitterrific). This is not related to the fact that some apps only work in one orientation; that I understand. This has to do with the fact that sometimes my home screen doesn't adjust based on what orientation my iPad is in even though I have orientation lock turned off.

OK. It may not work either. It seems like iOS 10.2 has made this worse. Sorry...
