Netflix error code 11800 ATV4

What's the faaaarkn go with this error code 11800 I keep getting on Netflix!!?? I bought an ATV4 and Netflix worked for like a week and then I started getting this error message and it hasn't worked since. From what I have found in forums it looks like it's a problem specific to ATV4, perhaps with its version of the Netflix app. I've tried all the troubleshooting, power offs, restart, reset and nuthin'! Anyone got any fixes, clues, if Apple or Netflix are aware of it or anything? Thanks

The error 11800 is an ATV error, it has been seen in the past with Airplay issues and other failures to connect to servers.

During isolation testing we set up and tested ATV4 on Personal Hotspot and the error does not occur.

This indicated an issue between the ATV > Modem > ISP

I had a feeling the issue is DNS related and I am unsure if a recent change on TVOS or Netflix have triggered this requirement.

Apple usually recommends leaving most settings as default or automatic even for DNS.

This won't be a problem if the Modem or Router are configured with the DNS manually input.

In some situations the Modem/Router are also set to Automatic and I believe this is why people are now seeing this issue.

Solution 1:

Obtain your ISP's DNS either from calling ISP, Via the ISP Website, or Account information supplied with the Internet setup.

Once obtained add these details to the ATV4

- Open the Settings app on your Apple TV

- Click on Network.

- Click on your network to view the network information.

- Click on Configure DNS.

- Change to Manual.

- Enter your DNS.

- Press Done and you are good to go.

Solution 1.5:

In the meantime we should be able to test using Google’s free DNS

If you’d like to use Google’s to resolve streaming issues, you can use either 008.008.008.008 or 008.008.004.004 on the Apple TV.

Solution 2:

Refer to ISP to gain assistance with adding/changing DNS server addresses on the Modem Router which should have the same effect as above.

I had the same problem and tried all the solutions which I found at forums. The curious thing was - Netflix worked fine an all other devices except Apple TV.

I solved the problem by checking the DNS number on my other device connected to the same WiFi and manually copying it to ATV in it's DNS settings (even though at all the forums it is recommended to keep DNS settings automatic). Now it works fine. Hope this helps

I had this issue for weeks, tried the solutions here (didnt work for me...i know they might work for others), and I just solved it.

On my case, my Apple TV 4 was on Ethernet, and my transmitting iPhone was on a Wireless Network. They were both on different networks. So, I switched Apple TV to the same network as the iPhone and voilá, it worked.

Pretty simple but I was on blackout for weeks...
