Loosely-speaking, the former manages network connections and the latter is a service that is used by Spotlight when indexing.

Installations of macOS 10.12.X typically spend several hours of intense activity indexing/syncing files after installation completes. Leave the machine plugged into a mains supply. It will usually have finished what needs doing overnight and will calm down by tomorrow.

Look for 'Duet' in your system logs and it's fairly obvious what the Duet family of processes do. Duet Activity Scheduler (DAS) runs periodically to assign priorities to tasks using various things with names starting 'com.apple.duet' including DuetHeuristic-BM. Based on this various tasks like Spotlight indexing, TM Backups, etc. get triggered via XPC.
