US Reseller Flex Policy

Hello,

I'm a Sri Lankan and one of my relative gave me an iPhone 7 plus but it could not be activated using a local sim.

A third party IMEI checking site says the iPhone is locked under something called US Re-seller Flex Policy and after some research I found that some forums and sites saying It could only be activated using a US SIM and If it was activated using a Verizon Wireless SIM the iPhone will be unlocked

But It's not easy to find a Verizon Wireless SIM around here in Sri Lanka

My problem is, Is there a way of activating and using this iPhone with a local SIM without having a US SIM

I appreciate your help

Thank you

iPhone 7 Plus

Hi

If your iPhone is locked to a different carrier than the one that you want to use, you will need to contact the original carrier (Apple does not perform unlocking) and follow the steps here:

How to unlock your iPhone - Apple Support

Unlocking is subject to the original carrier's policy - a minimum period of paid service and/or a fee may be required.

Unfortunately that phone can only be activated with a US carrier, and once activated it will be locked to that carrier. So unless you can send it back to the US to a friend or relative so they can activate it, then request that it be unlocked, you will not be able to use it.

The phone was not purchased directly from Apple, which is the only source of fully unlocked phones. Other sellers of iPhones in the US (and other countries) work this way; the phone will be usable only with a carrier in the country where it was sold, and will lock to the first carrier it is used with. Another example is phones purchased from Carphone Warehouse in the UK; they can only be used with UK carriers, and will lock to the first carrier they are activated with.
