Macbook Pro 2016 can't boot with USB-C-Thunderbolt adapter and daisy chained dual Thunderbolt displays

Hi, I'm working with a new Macbook Pro 2016 Touchbar notebook with maxed out specs (460 graphics, 2.9Ghz, 16Gb, 2TB). I am using the USB-C to Thunderbolt adapter to connect to my daisy chained thunderbolt displays (which used to work fine when hooked up to my 2012 retina MBP.

This setup works fine if I connect it to my already booted Macbook Pro, but if I restart my computer with these displays connected, the computer fails to boot. Instead, the progress indicator moves extremely slowly and finally when reaching the end I am told that my computer needs a critical software update. After allowing this update to download and install, I am told that the update failed to install. If I then disconnect the thunderbolt displays and allow the computer to boot, the critical update manages to get installed and the computer boots up normally.

Once the computer is started up, connecting the displays is no problem and things seem to work as intended. If I then restart the computer, I am again faced with the same symptoms (slow boot, update needed, fail).

I'm assuming this is a bug but don't know where to report it.

Thanks.

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS Sierra (10.12.2), USB-C to Thunderbolt Adapter used
