Screen rotation not working

Today i noticed that the screen rotation on ly Ipad Air 2 is not working anymore.

Currently, iOS 10.2 is installed on the device.

To clarify, the screen rotation lock is not enabled.

When i turn the screen, the interface does not rotate with it.

I was playing music through spotify and when i locked my screen in landscape mode, about 2/3 of the screen was visible. After unlocking and turning it off and on again, the rotation issue was not fixed, but i had portrait mode.

I then tried opening a landscape app and closing it with the tablet in portait mode.

The UI turned to portait mode and instantly turned back to landscape mode.

Suddenly, the tablet went back to landscape, but nos i cannot rotate it in any way, except the app i am using is landscaoe oriented.

Any help/thoughts on this issue?

There is no physical damage to the iPad at all, nor did it fall/take damage prior to thus issue.

The interface was last changed in the iOS update a week or so ago. Probably the 10 or 10.2 update.

Make sure you have rotation enabled.

Take a look at this article:

You can also try these steps: This won't delete your data stored on the phone.

  • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
  • Press and hold on the Home button
  • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

Hi. The problem you describe has been reported several times since iOS 10.1.1. It seems to affect only the iPad Air 2. Restarting the device will definitely fix it, until it happens again. Try turning off Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion. You can also install a free Clinometer from the app store, and try running it when rotation locks. Please report it here https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html and be sure to mention your iPad Air 2.

Hello Demo. I've counted 40 distinct users posting this for their iPad Air 2's (congratulations, you're caller number 40!). By all reports, it's worse with iOS 10.2, and restarting may now be the only solution. An old thread indicates that it apparently started with iOS 8, went away, and has returned just recently. Since it's device-specific, I suspect it's in the M8 motion coprocessor firmware. There are also 2 (only) reports of this on iPad Mini 4, which shares the M8.

No specific app. There's a nice free Clinometer app near the top of the list. I mention it because an actual Clinometer user noticed that running it unlocked the rotation, presumably because it got the sensors working again. I guess that the lock-up occurs because the gyro sensor stops updating, making it appear that the device is not rotating. And please report it using the feedback link I posted above. You are the 57th iPad Air 2 user to report this here, so there are a good number of users looking for a fix. Good luck!
