My home theater system works fine-I just received an Apple TV as a gift and when connect to the tv direct WHITH HDMI cable if works fine. When I connect to my receiver only half the sound come through my home theater speakers.

Only 1/2 the sound comes through my home theater sleakers when I connect my Apple TV 4th generation to my receiver via HDMI cables. When I connect Apple TV to my TV direct with HDMI cable the sound comes through my tv speakers with no problems.

how can I get the full sound to come through my home theater speakers?

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.2.1

Hi. You'd need to give a lot more detail on how your equipment is hooked up, TV, Apple TV, home theater speakers, receiver. Have you tried the different Apple TV audio output settings: Best, 5.1, Stereo? To test what's going where in the different modes and configurations, you can get the free Surround Speaker Check app from the TV app store. It exercises the different channels, though only 5.1, I'm afraid.
